My Inspiring Leader
My Inspiring Leader
· The leader that I look up to is a man by the name of Mike Krzyzweski or better known as “Coach K”. He is very inspiring to me because he is true born leader or “great man leader”. He has won and achieved the highest goals on almost every level of his craft. He is currently the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils and the American National Men’s basketball team. I try to model my success and leadership styles after him because he is a very well spoken and successful leader. Being the coach of a college basketball team shows that he is committed to shaping the minds of the younger generation that will soon become the leaders of tomorrow. I mould my actions around him because he is very inspirational, well respected and at the top of his profession. These are all traits that I one day would like to achieve.
Leadership Styles

o Coach K’s skills come out best when he is using democratic leadership. As the coach and the leader he offers guidance and his coaching methods to the team
o He expects participation within the team
o Wants leaders within the team to step up, and wants to hear input from his players on how to better the team
o At the end of it all he has the final say and expects his players to play for him and be motivated while doing it.
· Charismatic Leadership
o A lot of people believe in him and trust him to do his best work and guide the team in the right direction
o Mike is a very admirable person. He is known worldwide for his success and is well respected at the collegiate level and also pro level
o Charm and grace are two of his strong suits. He is a very powerful speaker and has a way with words. By using his words, he gets the best out of his team on every play.
o Coach K is also great at personal risk taking. He gives his younger players a chance in close games to excel and develop their skills and in game performance.
· Laissez-faire/Situational Leadership
o In some situations when he is coaching the USA National Men’s Basketball Team, he will just sit back and watch as some of the most skilled players in the world play for him.
o Since these players are some of the best in world he may not have to always offer advice to them
o He also comes together with the team to discuss the team’s final goal. And then he will try and see if his goals and his team’s goals fit his structure.
o Once he has accomplished that he will then emerge as the leader of the team and insert his dominance have everyone on the same page.

Being a democratic leader is something that I look up to him for. He has the respect of so many people that they are all willing to work for him and put their best foot forward. I want to be so well respected that I would like to have people listen to what I say and actually try and offer guidance and methods to be successful.
· Coach K is also very well respected by me because he admirable and is a very charismatic leader. He expects the best out of others and trusts them enough to work for him. I think this makes him admirable and that is why he is so well respected because people see that. Watching him take risks on the court by calling plays or choosing certain players to play at a certain also makes me respect him more. This shows he is not scared to be bold and trust his judgement and his player’s skills that will make everyone successful.
· The Laissez-faire/ Situational leadership that Coach K shows is believe may be the boldest statement he makes sometimes. He has enough trust in his team to go out there and be successful. I would like to be able to be knowledgeable enough to have taught people things and then just sit back and watch them strive for greatness. I also look up to him because he has the knowledge to share his goals and be relatable with his players. Once they have gained his trust he then shows them the final goal that he wants to achieve and inserts himself in a position of power to help everyone succeed.
